Companies working with Hired want to fill open positions quickly. So, while you may create your Hired profile at any time, we recommend submitting when you are within 30 days of your desired start date at a new company. More than a month out from seriously looking? Go ahead and create your profile but wait to submit it for review until 30 days prior to your anticipated start date.

Yes! From start to finish!

Hired Assessments are a great way to demonstrate your technical abilities and dress up your profile. We offer a range of assessments for eligible candidates. We strongly encourage you to take a few because many of our companies prioritize candidates who do. When you pass an assessment, you earn a badge for your profile. Companies can view a playback of your session and in some cases, this could expedite the technical interview process. If you do not pass, no harm done – it simply appears as though you never took the assessment.

Assessments are currently available to approved software engineering, engineering management, and dev ops candidates only. Assessments are not available to candidates with other skill sets yet. Once approved to go live on the platform, candidates in eligible roles may access the tech skills assessments on a tab on their Hired profile.

Hired is a curated marketplace which caters to the needs of its companies. As a result, some experience levels are currently in high demand while others are not. Generally speaking, our companies prefer candidates with at least two years full-time experience already holding the title they seek. This means we don’t see as many entry-level roles on Hired at this time.

If you fall under two years full-time experience, we still encourage you to keep your profile up to date with new full-time experience as it may be possible to go live down the road after you surpass the two years threshold.

If you’d like to upskill, join a networking community, or work on your resume or interviewing skills in the meantime, Hired partners with several organizations to help you do this. Check out our partnership directory.

Sometimes. Demand for contractors tends to fluctuate on Hired, versus the demand for full-time employees, which tends to be more steady. Additionally, demand for contractors on Hired often fluctuates by location. For example, we tend to see less demand for contractors amongst our UK companies versus our North American companies.

If you are only looking for contract work and we have less demand at the time, it’s likely your profile will remain private. We then recommend resubmitting your profile in two to three months to see if demand for contract work has increased in your preferred location.

Absolutely. Your jobseeker profile on Hired is hidden from past and current employers. Hired is confidential for you.

You might be a unicorn of talent! We know a lot of jobseekers who’ve transitioned or pivoted careers. These individuals often have transferrable skills invaluable to tech and sales teams. For example, one of our partners, General Assembly, shared an example of a jobseeker named Mel. He worked for a bank for several years but attended General Assembly to learn software development skills. His banking industry knowledge combined with his up-to-date tech skills were a powerful draw for financial services employers.

When you’re working on your profile, be sure to emphasize your skills and relevant experience. Even volunteer work and hobbies are relevant! Lots of jobseekers with passion projects and interests outside of their current role have parlayed those interests into new roles. You don’t. We advise candidates to be extremely thorough when filling out their profiles because it 1) helps create better matches with employers and roles and 2) recruiters love to learn about you! Don’t be shy about including hobbies, passion projects, volunteer interests, aspirations, and other information. For example, if you’re interested in growing into a management role, share your experiences managing projects with cross-functional teams. Do you volunteer coach a kids’ sports team? Management skills. Did you manage a fundraising event or project through your community or house of worship? These are all places where you developed management skills. If you love pair programming or if it’s not your thing, you can include it. Background information like this helps employers know whether you’re likely to enjoy working there and be happy long-term.

In full transparency, some employers’ protocols require a formal resume as part of their internal hiring process, so it’s good to have one handy. Having one ready to go or attached to your profile could help you move through their specific hiring process more quickly. If you’re eager to get to the offer stage, eliminate this potential obstacle and have one available.
