The Volkswagen-Audi Virtual Engineering Lab (VEL) in California links Silicon Valley's entrepreneurial energy with the Volkswagen Group's aims for digital transformation. In a close collaboration with Audi, we serve Volkswagen, Audi, and eventually other brands within the Volkswagen family.

We're a brand-new team in Silicon Valley with a counterpart group at Volkswagen headquarters in Germany. We're aiming to build a team of high-performers that will prototype and develop VR and AR tools to serve our automotive design and development teams. VR and AR provide us with new paradigms to drastically cut design cycle time and allow our teams to communicate faster and make better decisions, eliminating the time and expense of physical prototypes which can cost upwards of $5-10m.

We have existing projects underway (interior visualization, airflow simulation, crash simulation, tactile shape display in collaboration with Stanford, etc.) and look to you to help us generate new concepts as we transform how the world's largest automaker designs and develops its cars. You will also get to share your work externally as we partner with the local ecosystem (startups, enterprises, universities, incubators) to gather the best technologies and methodologies to improve our work, shipping knowledge back to Germany.

Our needs cover the VR spectrum, including UX, graphics, networking, 3D art, and Unity development in C#. If you have those skills, and want to apply them to using VR & AR to solve automotive problems, we want you!

    How to Join Our Team

We want committed people who identify with building for automotive. You will join us initially as a contractor with the aim of converting to long-term, multi-year commitment. There are several opportunities for learning and growth as we measure success on what we learned and what changed. Our team members are motivated to be part of what we are building and to help create it from scratch. There may be an expectation for you to travel to Germany two to three times a year to be in contact with and work with our colleagues overseas.

    How We Interview & Hire:

Our interview process begins with a phone or video call to help you learn more about the role, understand your skills and experience, and to help decide if Audi is a mutual fit. If we both decide to move forward, depending on the role there may be a technical challenge to complete. Once passed, we will bring you in for an on-site interview and we'll have you meet with several of our team members to make sure we both find a good team fit. We'll show you our office space, the equipment, and introduce you to our mission and vision so you can understand what we want to achieve. We look forward to meeting you!
