Steno was founded in Southern California—by a trial attorney, a computer engineer, and an experienced entrepreneur. We looked at the existing court reporting options, and felt there was something missing. The industry was antiquated. The entire approach was begging for change. That’s why we started Steno.

We started with our approach to financing. We knew a few agencies offered deferred-payment court reporting, but in general, the options felt clunky and full of risks. So we set out to change that, with a streamlined deferred-payment offering designed to make deposition financing easy: DelayPay.

Once we got into it, we realized that cash flow wasn’t the only problem with the current approach to court reporting. We found all kinds of inefficiencies—from scheduling, to billing—and we realized the industry needed a new platform built specifically for remote litigation. All together, we’re building a better court reporting experience for everyone across the nation—one rooted in tech and built to solve the specific challenges independent law firms face.
