With cyber-attacks and data breaches ever on the rise, the need for security awareness is more important than ever. Panaseer have disrupted digital security management for businesses, building Big Data platforms to allow executive tiers to evaluate and draw insight about security performance enterprise-wide to inform next actions.
 
For the last 20 years, trends around data security have leant towards catching breaches, rather than prevention. Panaseer’s innovation provides complete visibility to holistically manage security across an enterprise’s digital estate so that businesses can mitigate risk before cyber-criminals can attack.
 
We launched in June 2014. Our CEO, Nik was then joined by Mike, our Chief Data Scientist, Sophie our Chief of Staff and our CTO, Charaka. Having all met at BAE Systems, in their cyber business unit, a complementary skillset seemed to muster the perfect storm to create our own cutting-edge cyber-security business. Our success is proven, landing us Women in IT’s Business Leader of The Year Award and finalist of ‘Cyber Security Leader of the Year’. We’ve also been recognised for our innovative technology earning a finalist position in the Startup Showcase at Strata+Hadoop World.
 
Since our founding we have built up a team of 25 and our most recent funding has raised over £2.5m which will bolster our US presence and continue to grow out our capabilities. We are now split into three technical functions across our platform – Our Data Platform Engineers build our back-end and ETL infrastructure. Our Front-End team builds the web-based UI platform that allow the data scientists to visualise the insights they generate, through a customisable dashboard. Drawing on cutting-edge open source technologies, we ingest and analyse large volumes of data and derive and present cyber insights from high-level summaries down to individual machines.
 
The design and build of our Big Data infrastructure and applications is complex, using a mix of exciting new technologies. Our platform, hosted on AWS, and on-premises at our customers, is ready to ingest data of any format and volume using NiFi and Kafka. Our ETL architecture makes use of seamless Spark integration where we can stream, analyse and process data as it is released in real-time or in batches. This way, time to insight is drastically reduced. We blend together a wide array of technologies across the Hadoop ecosystem. The storage technology we use is Hive & HBase (Phoenix), we analyse and process via Scala Spark and PySpark with a host of tools for data modelling. Our visualisation framework is D3.js powered, running on Angular.
 
Our platform and data science applications are at the core of what we do. Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers and the Client Success team work together in cross-functional teams to get a deep understanding of the problems our users are facing and explore potential solutions through a range of prototyping techniques before we build the product. We all do discovery to make sure we build the right product and everyone understands why we’re building it.
 
As we grow, we are excited to explore areas such as machine and algorithmic learning, pushing technical boundaries. Currently, we have a lot going on - our Data Platform team is building bespoke frameworks for our Data Scientists using Scala and as our efficiencies increase, our client base is on track to grow along with our ambitious internal growth plans.
 
We are a tightly knit, social bunch that enjoys weekly Pana-beers, free lunches on Wednesdays and plenty of social outings. We balance out our geek by keeping fit with quarterly running club, weekly yoga and rock climbing.
