Nurx launched out of YCombinator Winter 2016. Founded by childhood friends, Hans Gangeskar and Dr. Edvard Engesaeth. Hans studied computer science and law, while edvard became a doctor. They were inspired to take action after learning that there are 3 million unintended pregnancies and 50,000 new HIV infections each year in the United States. To sign up for Nurx, you answer questions about your health and insurance and select your preferred type and brand of birth control or PrEP. A doctor then reviews your health info and follows up if there are any questions or concerns before sending the prescription directly to you.
In just a few short months, Nurx has been covered by nearly a thousand media outlets including Good Morning America, New York Times, The Guardian, MTV, CNN, CNBC, ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Hello Giggles, Refinery29, CBS News, Bedsider, The San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Engadget, TechCrunch, OUT Magazine, Huffington Post, and BuzzFeed.
