Netaround

NetAround is a direct response to the current predicament social media finds itself in today. Rather than providing an semi-intrusive, digital substitute for social interaction, the app acts as a facilitator of real, meaningful relationships by helping you network with other people who are in your immediate vicinity.

The app capitalizes upon the notion that strong connections are dependent on two, necessary factors: commonalities and in-person interaction. It’s our theory that the strongest predictor of shared traits or interests isn’t how you filled out a profile or scored on some arbitrary test -- rather, it’s the physical places where you spend the majority of your time. Whether it’s networking during business events and conferences, getting to know the neighbors in your new apartment building, or connecting with fellow fans at your favorite band’s next show, the people we typically want to meet are the one’s who surround us everyday.

We call this nexus of potential new friends the “Consequential Stranger Network," and it’s the foundation of NetAround’s promise to bring social networking back to reality. Most apps treat their own interface as the ultimate end of IRL social interaction -- this attitude makes the app novel and fun for a while, but the “software for its own sake” quickly becomes a product to consume rather than a facilitator of lasting experiences. Conversely, NetAround connects its users with the people around them, placing an emphasis on real-world networking and social interaction.
