We have come a long way in the last seven years. Mix one start-up, an acquisition with a global brand and a new digital headquarters and you've got Under Armour Connected Fitness. Here's how it all started:
MapMyFitness is the story of two ideas colliding — MapMyRun and MapMyRide. Kevin Callahan created the original MapMyRun.com to help him map and record the runs he completed while training for his first marathon. Robin Thurston conceived MapMyRide while abroad on a cycling vacation as a means to help cyclists chart and track the rides they completed along their travels. The two joined forces to form MapMyFitness which now powers more than 31 million people worldwide to live healthy and active lifestyles. In November 2013 we announced the acquisition of MapMyFitness by Under Armour for $150M.
MapMyFitness and Under Armour have teamed up to create Under Armour Connected Fitness, dedicated to providing all of the technology needed to train, perform and improve. Aimed at transforming fitness and performance, Under Armour is committed to leveraging new and emerging digital technologies to create unmatched consumer and member experiences, both online and in our stores.
Under Armour Connected Fitness powers the complete digital product suite of MapMyFitness, including MapMyRun, MapMyRide, MapMyWalk, MapMyHike, and the UA Record app. The company sees commitment to digital technologies as a key factor in powering our mission to help make all athletes better through passion, design and the relentless pursuit of innovation.
