Started by an early Uber exec and a psychologist from Stanford Med, Lighthouse Labs is creating a new delivery model for mental health care. Each year one in four Americans will experience a diagnosable episode of anxiety or depression, but less than half of those people actually do anything about it. The current system prevents people from accessing care because seeing a therapist is inconvenient, expensive, and typically not covered by insurance. Despite all this, over $8 billion per year is spent out of pocket on private practice therapy.

Lighthouse is built on the premise that the latest evidence-based science for taking care of our emotional health can be delivered by someone without a fancy degree. In fact, research has proven that the amount of schooling and experience required to be a licensed therapist is excessive and doesn’t yield better outcomes. It constrains the labor pool, increases cost and keeps people from accessing care. Lighthouse is bringing evidence-based treatment to the masses by empowering people without an advanced degree to be effective therapists. We've condensed the latest science in cognitive behavioral therapy into something that most people can learn in a few hours. We connect these "peer therapists" to clients via our platform at a fraction of the cost of a traditional therapist.
