When the Great Recession of 2008 hit, the mortgage market changed forever. Thousands of people across the country were now unable to purchase a great home. To find a solution to this problem, our founder, Bill Young, began strategizing a way to provide access to capital that allowed people to move into communities and homes they previously couldn’t afford. Instead of renting a house via a standard lease, an innovative new idea was proposed. By underwriting applicants as if they were purchasing the house, residents chose a home they loved. With the model of buy, lease, and Right to Purchase, the Lease Purchase Program was created.
Over the next few years, Hyperion Homes, later renamed Home Partners of America, continued to buy properties and expand into new markets. By 2017, Home Partners was active in 40 metros and had helped get over 10,000 households into a home they love. More people were joining the team to accommodate the steady increase in capital. To manage the properties, Home Partners invested in Pathlight Property Management. Home Partners and Pathlight work as one team to provide people a positive experience in one of the most important aspects of life - their home.
