The Helix Centre is an innovation lab working at the heart of health care. We translate pioneering clinical research into products that improve people's health and health care.
Our interdisciplinary team of ~25 designers, technologists, clinicians and researchers works out of St. Mary's Hospital in London and is part of Imperial College London. We use human-centred design to rapidly dissect problems, identify opportunities and develop clinically-evaluated, digital solutions, which we then bring to market either through partnerships or spin out ventures.
Helix Centre was launched in 2014. Since then, it has developed a number of new products that are being used today in the NHS and abroad. We developed a clinical task management application that was acquired by DeepMind, an end-of-life care planning tool for clinicians that is being used in 30+ hospitals and we have three further products beginning clinical trial stage, in paediatric medication safety, stroke rehabilitation and dementia care. Our website has more on each of these projects: https://helixcentre.com/our-work
Day-to-day life at Helix is a bit like being part of a digital start up and a bit like being part of a University research lab. We believe that a highly collaborative team of talented designers, engineers and clinicians, working in an agile way with patients, professionals and the public, has the best chance of creating the radically better solutions that today's challenges demand.
