Healthdirect Australia is a national, government-owned, not-for-profit organisation that provides digital health and related services across general health, pregnancy and birth, childhood, aged care and social sectors.

Our vision is to be a key part of a quality Australian health system by helping consumers manage their own health through leveraging technology to enable timely access to health and related services.

At Healthdirect Australia we believe that all Australians should have access to the information and advice they need to manage their own health and wellbeing. It’s this vision that underpins everything we do.

To do this, we’re providing people with the tools they need to manage their own health and wellbeing – improving health literacy, ensuring 24 hours a day / 7 days a week access and directing people to appropriate services where and when they need them. We’re using all of the available technology channels that people want and expect to use, and that provide the best value for money.

    Some of our work:
National Health Services Directory – the Directory is a joint initiative of all Australian governments and a key component of the national eHealth infrastructure. It is recognised as the foremost source of information about health and related services across Australia. For health practitioners, the Directory facilitates the coordination of ongoing care for patients providing connection of care and referral pathways for location-based services.

Video Call: Video Call brings an easy to use, cost effective, secure and accessible video call capability to the health sector. It meets the increasing demands for flexible access to health services and allows service providers to offer video call access as part of their day-to-day operations.

healthdirect app: Recognising the rise in smartphone use, we launched the healthdirect app in 2015, providing another channel through which people can access health information and advice. The app provides a Symptom Checker tool to help people make informed decisions, an Australia-wide directory of health services, and comprehensive health information taken from the healthdirect website.

We operate in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Rapid changes in technology and consumer expectations are transforming the way people expect to access services. Whilst advances have been made in recent times, health, ageing and social service sectors will continue to experience significant change in the decade ahead.

We are working with our government shareholders to help them deliver on their visions for a better health system. This will include supporting the National Digital Health Strategy and the work of bodies like the Australian Digital Health Agency.
