We started Fundrise with a simple goal - give everyone the ability to invest in commercial real estate. Our idea definitely had its skeptics. Industry professionals told us raising capital from large numbers of individuals online was impossible. They couldn't have been more wrong...
In July 2012, after almost a year of working through the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), we raised $325,000 online from 175 investors to renovate a retail building in Washington, DC. Since then, we’ve gone on to raise over $400 million from thousands of individuals all over the US and are expanding rapidly.
In September 2014 we raised a $35 million Series A from industry leaders, including Silverstein Properties and Guggenheim Partners, to continue growing the business. New York, Seattle and San Francisco offices opened over the course of the next few months. In January of 2015 we reached $100 million in commitments from institutional partners allowing individual investors to co-invest alongside world-class institutions in real estate for the first time.
Our interview process begins with an introductory call for us to learn a little more about each other and decide if there might be a fit. If we decide to move forward, you'll come into our office in Dupont Circle for an initial interview with the team members with whom you'd be working most closely. For engineers and developers, this will consist of a technical screening. For designers, we'll dig into your portfolio and do a whiteboard-based design exercise, followed by a more open-ended discussion. If we believe there's a fit, you'll come back in for a secondary interview to meet senior members of the management team, and from there we proceed with an offer.
