Elsen is the Platform-as-a-Service company for large financial institutions. The Elsen nPlatform enables anyone to effortlessly harness vast quantities of data to make better decisions and quickly solve the most complex problems.

Elsen is delivering technologies and user experiences in an industry with slow change and disturbingly large reach. We are a financial services company with the core of a technology firm. We believe that technology is the fundamental driver of innovation and we will create experiences that our users cannot get anywhere else.

Story

At the beginning Elsen was actually a platform targeting retail investors to help them become more systematic. From our personal experiences, the tools and applications that existed were restricted for all but the most active traders. So we deployed our web app and mobile app, had about 1,000 users playing with the system when we started getting pinged by some small hedge funds asking about the underlying technology. These emerging hedge funds wanted to use the technology to power their in-house analytics and so we decided around that time to pivot to institutional clients. We are now working with quant hedge funds and some of the largest financial firms in the world to help them test their ideas faster.

The differentiator between Elsen and other services comes back to the reason why those emerging funds reached out to us: our technology platform is years ahead of the competition. Being able to deliver analytics 50x faster allows us to do things on the interface that competitors just can't do.

Hiring

An overview of our hiring process:
Phone Call | Initial "getting to know each other" chat and simple phone screen
1st Interview | Video or In-Person Technical Interview - try to dive into as many code examples as possible and understand candidates capabilities and thought process -- sometimes we will do a follow-up tech interview if the candidate wants to prepare other items or if we need to pull in another Elsen developer
2nd Interview | In-Person Cultural Interview - meet the team over lunch or dinner or drinks or something
Offer Letter | If we both think it's a good fit, an offer letter will be sent out for your acceptance

Experience

We are a small but growing team so we need candidates that can jump in on day one and commit production level code. We want team members that don't require supervision; and be leaders providing guidance for our next hires. So at least a few years of real-world, relevant work experience is a must for us.

Culture

Startups are known for the quick iteration cycles, long hours, and continuous feedback. So we just want to work with people that we enjoy being around and can depend on. If you are cool with afternoon games of Coup, dangerous quantities of Red Bull in the fridge, and existential conversations about Dr. Manhattan while the coffee is brewing, then we will probably get along great.
