In 2000 a news story about two primary school girls children who went missing on their way to school made headline news in the UK. The parents hadn't been notified that the girls had been missing and came to collect them from the school gates as normal. They were horrified that their girls were missing and the school hadn't informed them. Thankfully the girls were found safe and sound.
Meanwhile, in a small office of a small telecoms company above a false limb factory in a not very nice area of Birmingham, the idea for notifying parents quickly should their children be absent from school was born and named Truancy Call.
From Truancy Call the company grew (leaving the false limb factory behind and moving to a much nicer area of Birmingham) and quickly expanded its product range for schools and local authorities. Changing its name to Contact Group, they are now a leading provider of best in class communication and data services to thousands of state and independent primary and secondary schools, academies, nurseries, sixth form colleges, local authorities, charities and clubs in the UK and Ireland. In addition they operate to international schools in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australia.
