How are we doing it?

We're making it easy to do three key, inter-related tasks: (1) create reusable templates out of any set of legal forms, (2) get legal transactions done online using those templates, and (3) utilize the data captured in those legal transactions.

As it turns out, the software to make this all happen is incredibly complex. There are entire enterprise software companies built around document generation alone, which is only a small subset of (2).

Because the software is complex, we spend a great deal of attention on code quality and maintainability. We take our time to come up with sensible, accurate names for methods and variables. We have good test coverage and a pretty nice CI setup that incorporates linting, style checking, code coverage metrics, visual diffs, deployment, and more.

About Us

Clerky was founded in 2011 by two engineers-turned-startup-lawyers, Chris and Darby. Coming from engineering backgrounds, they were shocked at how inefficient the practice of law was - people were repetitively doing search-and-replace in Word, printing, collating, faxing, scanning, etc. They realized that software could do all of this faster, and more accurately - and that's how Clerky was born!
