    Where it all started

Rikke, our founder, came up with the concept for BorrowMyDoggy in 2012 when she was looking after her neighbour’s dog for the day.

It worked out great for all of them. Rikke spent the day taking care of Aston (a very cute brown Labrador), and her neighbour’s mind was at ease knowing that his dog was being watched by someone who really cared for her instead of being stuck at home alone. Aston spent the day in the park having fun, and looking after her made Rikke really happy.

During the day she thought “there should be a site where dog owners can have their dogs taken care of by people who absolutely adore dogs and miss having a doggy in their life.”

She realised that all owners need to be away from their pooches sometimes. There's no need for a doggy to be home alone, to pay for a kennel or a dog walker on a lovely Sunday, when there are lots of people who adore dogs but unfortunately can’t have them (due to work, travel etc.), who would love to take care of doggy for free. In addition to this, it would allow owners and doggies to get to know more people locally and spread lots of happiness.

    And, so, BorrowMyDoggy was born.

A little pup of a company

We started out gradually by manually matching people to dogs in their area, and as we added more and more members to the site, we built out the first version of the platform as it exists today. We launched the automated matching and communication platform in October 2013, and we've been growing ever since.

Our lovely members are everything from families, to students, older or unwell people, singles and everyone in between. There is a huge range of dogs on the site too - everything from Labradors and Spaniels to Great Danes and Dachshunds with some wonderful mixed breeds thrown in too - Labradoodles, Springadors, Terrier crosses and even a few complete mysteries.
