We are the small but mighty educational technology start up that’s evolving the way video is used in classrooms across the US, Middle East and Asia. We have the world’s largest collection of educationally relevant short-form videos from content partners including YouTube, The Smithsonian, TED Talks and The Wall St Journal and many more. With video clips curated to academic standards, the boclips video platform allows teachers and publishers to easily find and use engaging content that brings lessons to life - in a safe ad-free platform.
We are a team of 8 Full-Stack Software Engineers. We value and enjoy being together as a team and intend to grow mostly in London. We think we will need to double the team this year.
We work hand in hand with our Product team and practice agile development. As Engineers we take an interest in the whole product and the business not just the technology we use. Here's the beginnings of our blog to see a Day in the Life of a Boclips Engineer.
Most of the time we pair programme, but not always. We love to share context, solve problems together and learn from each other. If we get burnout from pairing, we solo.
We are a reflective team. We share ideas, decison-making and feedback often. This approach is supported in our weekly rhythms and rituals; Stand ups, weekly team retros and bi-monthly 1o1s.
We are advocates for clean, well-tested code as well as TDD and CI/CD and all the things that make software engineering efficient and fun. If you want to see some of our code, check out our github..
Our pairing setups are iMacs and Dell screens and MacBook Pros for solo work or taking home.
Kotlin, Spring, Typescript, React, Kubernetes, Google Cloud.
Scala, Spark and R for Data.
Our interviews don't really feel like interviews. In fact you might even forget it's an interview. It's all about interaction for us. No sitting alone in a room doing a technical time-boxed test. No! Social skills matter, like having a decent conversation about non-technical things. Being kind matters to us as much as thinking about writing understandable and clear lines of code.
1st Interview: 1 hr Remote Pairing Session. Andrew, one of our team, will share screens over a hangout. He will code as you both talk through your ideas, solving a coding challenge together. We're looking for empathy, listening, idea sharing and structured thinking.
2nd Interview: Half a day with the team, going about a normal day. Stand up, pairing, retro, lunch. You get to see what it would be like working at boclips. And we get to see you at your best.
That's it.
