At the core, our goal is to save lives. Mark had the idea for a smart carbon monoxide detector after Hurricane Sandy. His grandmother was heating her home in the disaster area with her gas stove, spewing dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide into her home, and yet neither of them had any way of knowing. Looking at existing products, nothing out there was even close to solving this. The opportunity to build something truly disruptive was too immense to pass up.
After connecting through a mutual friend, we hit it off with our mutual passion for making. When Mark, the software and business guy told Justin, the hardware and design guy about the idea of a smarter smoke detector + air pollution monitor, his immediate response was “Let’s build that.” The 1st step was going to the Cleanweb hackathon to build the concept. Working together just clicked, & we built the hardware & interactive demo in a day, taking home validation of the team & concept, plus a cash prize.
To grandma's delight, the team has been hacking and growing ever since.
