Benchling is building the software layer that powers all biological research. Our customers are solving humanity’s most pressing challenges (such as disease, renewable energy, clean water, and hunger) and are advancing fields like gene editing, synthetic biology, and antibody engineering.
Benchling enables them to collaborate and move more efficiently. Research today means disparate tools, manual data entry, and lots of paper. We provide a streamlined system for designing and running experiments, analyzing data, and sharing results. Scientists are able to work much faster while organizations can collect and tap into their vast institutional knowledge.
While doing biology research as undergrads at MIT, we became fed up with how difficult it is for biologists to work together. As CS majors, we saw how tools like Git enable software engineers to collaborate, and couldn't believe biologists still use paper notebooks and archaic desktop software.
We decided to build an online platform for biology research to tackle this problem. With close ties to top research labs and software talent, we're uniquely positioned to modernize life science.
1) We're working in a space (biotechnology) that is growing rapidly but has no one else building quality software tools.
2) We're mission-driven. We're saving thousands of scientists hours per day, helping them find solutions to everything from disease to renewable energy faster.
3) We're a world-class product team. Our founders have unique expertise at the intersection of biology and software.
4) We're culture focused we work hard, are thoughtful about the organization we're building, love hanging out together and know how to have fun.
