Customers usually start with a simple, innocent profit maximizing pursuit such as automatically uploading, nurturing and qualifying new subscribers. This request lands somewhere in the hands of resource-constrained IT, and, after justifications, analysis, and prioritization meetings over a few weeks, ends up looking like a project that should be reasonably finished in a few months. By the time the solution arrives, the value of the process is diminished and another process is needed. This is considered a good outcome.

In an undesired outcome, this request ends up in the valley of this-is-an-unfunded-request, or the pit of we-are-resource-constrained, or the ever popular black hole of the-ROI-is-not-justified.
