LIFE AS A LENDABLE ENGINEER

Our development lifecycle goes from tech planning to development. All code runs tests and code standards checkers on Jenkins. Once complete, we do code reviews for each other before releasing into production. We typically do a couple of releases a day. We have the freedom to work on other parts of the system, so if you’re a backend engineer, you can also do some frontend or devops.

We are a flexible team, with engineers starting at different hours and working from when home it suits. We run a daily standup at 10:15AM and remote in those working from home. This includes all devs on the project but also key stakeholders.

We run a fortnightly brown bag, where engineers have the opportunity to showcase work, show demonstrations or do a talk on new tech. Regular dev discussions take place where we decide between ourselves any changes we want to see in the codebase or pipeline. Live incidents get logged and we do retrospectives using “the 5 whys” to address the root cause of issues.

We are a very data and tech-driven company, learning opportunities are plentiful and time is offered to learn new technologies and attend conferences of interest.

Engineering stack:
We leverage many of the latest open source offerings alongside trusted and reliable technology in order to deliver maximum value to our customer base. Our primary products are engineered using PHP7.3, Symfony 4.4, our main data store is MySQL, ElasticSearch is used for indexing the growing volume of data we require dynamic access to. Our platform is hosted on AWS using Terraform for infrastructure as code. Docker, Kubernetes and Helm enable us to manage containerised services. CI/CD is handled by Jenkins, with automated Docker builds and deployments to staging. Our front end is built with React combined with choice JS libraries. Our latest product, to be released in 2020, is a React Native app we are building from the ground up which will dramatically shake up the UK consumer finance landscape.

Data Science Stack:
The Data Science team have a front and centre role within the company, bearing responsibility for credit and fraud risk. We are enthusiastic pythonistas, and well practised with core data science libraries; pandas, scipy, scikit-learn and keras. We also work extensively with web development libraries; flask, celery and sqlalchemy. Our services are deployed on AWS and like our main platform, all services are containerised using Docker/Kubernetes and Helm with Jenkins providing CI/CD.

HIRING PROCESS
Our hiring process is fast and flexible, in line with our company philosophy. It therefore doesn't follow a fixed structure, but in general the recruitment process follows the following structure:

- On-site interview to discuss test
