The foods that are healthiest for us, are also the least efficient to produce. Abundant is on a mission to change that by automating orchard agriculture.

The Problem

For over $200 billion of fresh fruit production, orchards are operated nearly as manually as they were 100 years ago. For example, the $50 billion apple industry pays $5-$7 billion per year to manually harvest apples. Growers globally face an increasingly scarce labor supply to harvest their crops. While the industry has searched for decades for an automated harvest solution, it hasn't been possible to meet both the performance and economic requirements.

The Product

Abundant's first product is an mobile robot which drives itself through orchards and picks fruit without damaging fruit or trees, at productivity rates equal to many people.

How We Operate:

We’re a team of experts who are both confident in our ability and adamant in our desire to collaborate with similarly capable folks. We value intelligence, thoughtfulness, openness, initiative, and the ambition to build things that do useful work. We’ve built extensive domain knowledge through a series of prototyping initiatives, taking increasingly complex systems into orchards for real-world testing and learning. We pay a lot of attention to our customer’s reality.

We each own specific aspects of our product, digest and distill its requirements, design a solution, build and test that solution in the lab, and then operate it in the field to see what works and what can be better. We iterate through these design, build, test cycles as quickly as possible.
