    About Welkin

Welkin Health's mission is to leverage the power of human relationships to help people living with chronic disease become happier and healthier. We build a configurable software platform to help nursing teams manage their ongoing relationships with the patients they care for. Welkin's tools prompt care team users with the tasks they should be doing at any given time based on their organization's standard of care, and make it easy to reach out to patients through any communication channel. For patients, we make it easy and convenient to get in touch with their caregivers however is best for them, so that they can get both the education and the emotional support they need on the long and difficult journey of managing a chronic condition.

    How we Interview and Hire

One of Gideon and Chase, our cofounders, kicks off our hiring process with an introductory phone or video call to tell prospective candidates more about Welkin and to learn about the candidate's interests and professional goals. Since we're still a small team (around 15 people), we're able to then move quickly into our half-day of onsite interviews. Candidates speak with about 5 members of the Welkin team for interviews of various kinds. We aim to assess subject-matter expertise for the role in question as well as communication skills and emotional intelligence. See our Values below for more about what kind of team we're trying to build.

    Our Values

Welkin's team has worked hard to articulate the cultural values that we want to enshrine going forward, to ensure that as our team grows, we preserve the dynamics that make it rewarding to work together.

    1. Respect

We are peers working together to create an environment where we can all thrive. We acknowledge that separating a “work self” from a “personal self” is often difficult, so we strive to create a culture where everyone feels safe and respected sharing their personal interests and identities. At the same time, to create a scalable work culture, we support candidates and coworkers who wish to preserve separation between their personal and work selves. We are sensitive to power dynamics and explicitly examine the ones at work in our company.

    2. Inclusivity

We are cognizant of the pitfalls of small startup monocultures and of how easy it is to accidentally perpetuate one. We seek coworkers who share our values, are committed to our company’s mission, and will engage in crafting healthy team dynamics that support everyone. We actively examine the many ways that our industry elevates privileged points of view (especially the cis white male perspective), and we seek to avoid replicating these flaws.

    3. Wellness

Our company leverages the power of human relationships to help patients with chronic illnesses become happier and healthier. We keep the same focus internally in our culture and habits and put a strong emphasis on self-care. We encourage humor and lightheartedness to avoid taking ourselves too seriously. We understand that building a company is an ultra-marathon, and we help each other work hard but sustainably.

    4. Transparency

We hire teammates who desire to learn as much as possible about the realities of running a growing company and are resilient to the occasional turbulence that entails. All of us communicate openly about the rationale behind the decisions we make so that everybody can learn together from the results.

    5. Relationship Building

We interact primarily as coworkers, but we understand that our co-working relationships require as much active work as close friendships. We have frequent one-on-ones, share meals regularly, practice honest and compassionate feedback, and learn from each other. We respect the power of coaching and provide mutual mentorship. We all work hard to be the best versions of ourselves with each other.
