With the sole purpose of empowering small businesses, Rohit and Nipul started connecting local businesses in their own San Francisco neighborhood, with just a small team from their Noe Valley apartment. They found that business owners and employees who operated even a short walk away from each other barely knew each other’s names. Yet once connected, they used each other as resources to solve problems, organize events, and even stop criminals and keep their neighborhood safe.
Fast forward to today and Townsquared has expanded its neighborhood-based business network to thousands of business owners over four major markets - the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley), New York, Seattle, and Portland. What began as the deceptively simple goal of giving business owners a way to support each other is beginning to change the way local businesses grow and work together with their communities.
Small businesses account for one third of the US GDP, and their significance to the economy cannot be overstated. By providing an easy way to increase scale and build support into each and every business, Townsquared has empowered the people who give our neighborhoods their character and community. Small business owners and their employees can now come together and to grow their business and their peace of mind.
We begin with a 30-minute call with one our engineers and you’ll complete a quick coding exercise with him or her over the phone. Following this, you’ll chat with our VP of Engineering and/or one of the founders and have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about Townsquared.
If it seems like we might be a good fit for each other, we’ll invite you to Townsquared HQ for a day. In the morning, you’ll spend time with the engineering team as well as other members of the Townsquared family over the course of two to three 45-minute discussions. During lunch, you’ll hang with the whole team, so you can get a feel for the culture here. And you’ll also have a programming challenge to work on for an hour, with the opportunity to talk about your approach afterwards.
As a last step, we’ll ask you for references we can contact. We’ll work quickly to answer any lingering questions and make a decision regarding a formal offer. If hired, you’ll work closely with a few members of the team to ensure your move is a seamless and easy experience.
We’ve been having a growth spurt at Townsquared, and we’re not slowing down. In the next year we’re planning to double our size. We have offices in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, and Portland, but we’re still a small and agile team, and getting in on the ground floor ensures you’ll help build the foundation of Townsquared’s culture.
We move fast, but with data-driven purpose. Every day, you’ll know that you’re a crucial member of a team with an important goal. The company is no one person’s, and transparency, communication, and teamwork are paramount.
We’re driven by results, excited by experiments, and powered by people. Everyone at Townsquared believes wholly in our mission – empowering local business – and at the end of the day, this is how we measure success. Learn more about our team and our values at https://townsquared.com/ts/our-story/.
