More than a billion people around the world can't see properly simply because they lack access to glasses and vision care. 250M of them are suffering from clinical blindness. It's a staggering global health problem that cannot be addressed with current optometry staff and equipment.
CEO and co-founder Yaopeng Zhou had been working on optical systems for 10 years when he read those statistics and decided that he could repurpose optics technology into a smaller, smartphone-based package and dramatically lower its cost and barriers to accessibility. From that genesis came a company on a mission to fundamentally change the process of vision care, opening up a telemedicine platform that can reach billions of people. In addition to improving the experience for those with access, the company is also bringing care to those in need all over the world.
We sold our first device in September 2014, and so far we've received requests from all over the world. Headquartered in New York City, we're bringing vision to people who need it, from the Upper East Side to remote villages of Guatemala and everywhere in between.
