PreVeil is a cyber-security company based in Boston. We are building a platform that allows businesses to collaborate securely in ways that offer better protection and better ease to use than anything else.
PreVeil’s technology is based on research at MIT that enables computation on encrypted data. The basic idea is that traditional ways of protecting data in the cloud – including sophisticated firewalls and threat analysis algorithms – are often insufficient; the real objective is to secure information assuming the cloud server is under attack. Toward this end, PreVeil’s architecture includes comprehensive end-to-end encryption where the keys to user information are never visible outside of client devices.
PreVeil is addressing a problem that’s not well served: businesses collaborating with other businesses when proprietary or sensitive information is involved. PreVeil’s collaboration tools – think email, document sharing, etc. – are easier to use while providing better security than what’s available today. Current approaches are either cumbersome for users or work only in limited domains such that of a single IT organization.
