Bringing Together NYC Tech

eBay NYC is the Chelsea outpost for eBay.com, started after the acquisitions of Hunch and Svpply. We're building a community interested in solving challenging technology problems and we’re passionate about helping the NYC tech community grow. Check out our speaker series, eBay Tech Talks, and our no-strings-attached incubator program, Friends of eBay.

The New York tech scene is growing and eBay NYC is growing with it. We’re tackling complex data and product challenges across a variety of eBay properties and we’re looking for creative minds to conceptualize, deploy and scale solutions to hundreds of millions of people.

The teams here tackle some pretty impressive projects. The Engagement team owns the homepage for eBay Marketplaces worldwide, which currently includes the Feed and Today products as well as the services that power those experiences across platforms. The Merchandising team leverages 30 petabytes of data and machine learning to improve recommendations and personalization on the site and apps.

Interviewing with Us

Although different positions and teams have their own processes, they all follow the same general steps. The process usually starts with a roughly one hour technical screen, where you'll speak with someone from the team and go over your background, hear more about what we do and the team you'd be joining, answer some specific technical questions, and do a small shared coding assignment through something like collabedit.

Once you've showed your skills and look like you'd be a good fit for the position, we generally invite you to our office for a day to interview with a few more people from the team and do a more thorough coding test. The interviews with the team are generally technical in nature and about an hour per person and will cover the areas we think are most important for the job. The code test is generally 2-3 hours and will have you solving a problem related closely to the type of work you'd be doing every day.

At the end of the interviews, we hope that you'd have a great sense of the team you'd be working with and the type of things you'd be doing every day. We generally move from the interview to the offer pretty quick, and can always be flexible if there's other pressing time constraints.
