Hired Partner, Techqueria: Resources & Support for LatinX Tech Professionals

Welcome to our spotlight series! How about an introduction of yourself and Techqueria for our readers?

¿Qué tal? I’m Alexis De Jesus, Events Director for Techqueria. A nonprofit organization that serves the largest global community of Latinx professionals in tech with 18,000+ members and allies. At Techqueria, it’s our mission to provide Latinx professionals with the resources and support they need to thrive within the tech industry, whether they’re new to the industry or have been in the industry longer.

How did your organization come to exist?

Techqueria was founded in Berkeley in November 2015 by a group of three friends whose goal was to help those who were studying or pursuing a career in tech. In March 2019, we incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization and now maintain a bustling online community using Slack where over 13,000+ members engage daily.

Techqueria has been partnering with Hired for a while, how and why do you work together?

Yes, it’s been a couple years of supporting each other! Our partnership with Hired began in early 2020 with initial goals of assisting Techqueria jobseekers in finding their next role in tech, as well as a focus on sharing career advice with our members. The foundation of the partnership has remained and over the pandemic, we were able to leverage the industry knowledge that Hired has to enable our members to navigate the tech industry with ease! Since we’ve grown together, Hired participated in our monthly career fair which we co-host with Blacks in Technology and you’ll find that we often provide insights in Hired’s content, such as the How Remote Work Can Accelerate Diversity and Inclusion Efforts and 7 Ways to Source and Attract Diverse Talent ebooks.

Love reflecting on the work we’ve done together! What are some current initiatives for your organization?

We’ve recently been hosting more workshops on understanding benefits as well as how tech companies are advised to respond in regards to women, queer, and trans health rights.

In 2023, we’re starting fresh with a new take on partnerships including more in-person events along with creating more events with our community partners.

Exciting things ahead for 2023! Thank you for sharing all of that, our network will definitely enjoy learning more about your organization. Anything we should be on the lookout for?

Our annual Latinx Heritage Month Summit takes place on October 5-6. It’s virtual with a few in-person components (a.k.a Networking Happy Hours across multiple chapters)! Our LHM Summit was created to empower Latinx professionals in tech, connect them with companies who are committed to inclusion, and to celebrate the thriving Latinx in tech community. We are currently accepting submissions for moderators, speakers, and workshop leads!
