Hi! I’m Alan Stevenson, Senior Principal of Strategic Partnerships at Remote. 

Remote simplifies all the complexities of international hiring, making it quick and easy for any business to hire, manage, and pay the best talent — wherever in the world they’re based. Our mantra has always been that talent is everywhere but opportunities are not, and we work with companies of all sizes to give them access to that talent.

We’re a prime example of this approach. In January 2021, we had just 70 employees, but today we have over 1,500 across the globe — and we’re growing all the time. 

Wow, that’s incredibly exciting growth. Did Remote come to exist during COVID?

Actually, our co-founders, Job and Marcelo, started Remote in 2019. Even before the pandemic they understood that these opportunities needed to exist, and that companies needed better tools to hire and pay people in other countries.

In his previous company, Job saw how maddeningly complex it can be to hire someone abroad. From the get-go, you need to be equipped to run payroll, manage taxes and benefits, and comply with all the relevant laws and regulations in that location. And so Remote built the infrastructure to handle all of that, so that companies can build an international team as easily as they can at home.

That does sound “maddeningly complex.” Tell us more! 

Well, let’s say your business wants to hire a software engineer. Traditionally, you’d be restricted to candidates that are physically located near your office, which really narrows the pool. And on top of that, maybe the cost of hiring locally is really high.

With Remote, you can look much farther afield and find the perfect person for the role, regardless of where they live. And, once you hire them, we enable you to onboard them, pay them, provide benefits, and manage their day-to-day HR needs. We handle all the compliance, all the complex legal stuff; everything is taken care of, at every stage of the cycle. Everything you need is literally in one place.

We offer real flexibility, too. For instance, if you already have your own legal entity abroad, we can centralize payroll for you. We allow you to easily hire and pay contractors in multiple currencies, and avoid misclassification risks. If you want to integrate with other tools, we provide a custom API.

In terms of both opportunity and cost, all of that is a real game-changer — especially for smaller businesses. One of our clients recently told us that, by using Remote, they’d saved themselves upwards of $150,000 in internal hires and entity setup fees. Now, businesses can grow and scale far more efficiently. 

Sounds like a great way to enable global HR services directly. Where does the partnership with Hired come in?
