Hired Partner, Women in Innovation: Championing Women's Innovation in Work

Welcome to our spotlight series, please introduce yourself!

My name is Ellen Hlozan, I am Toronto-based and I represent Global Partnerships for WIN: Women in Innovation. I specialize in design thinking facilitation and strategic foresight focused on advancing emerging technologies. WIN is a non-profit organization representing women (and anyone identifying as a woman) who are championing innovation in their work — at companies and organizations both large and small. We seek to close the gender gap in innovation leadership.

How did your organization come to exist?

WIN started in 2016 in response to a gender gap in the innovation field. We know women need a seat at the table, and we’re striving to close that chasm. Only 25% of the top innovation firms are led by women. In 2018, women accounted for only 20% of Fortune 500 Chief Innovation Officers. There’s a gender wage gap of 16% between men and women in STEM occupations. We want to change these numbers. Want to be a part of the conversation? Join us.

Tell us more about your organization’s partnership with Hired.

WIN has partnered with Hired to highlight female-identifying candidates to employers. WIN encourages our community of leaders in Product, Software Engineering, UX/UI Design, and more to sign up for Hired to find their next tech role. We also encourage our community to leverage the content and events Hired creates for jobseekers to stand out during their job search. The tech industry has been hard hit with layoffs in the past months, making this an especially key time to offer visibility to those seeking new opportunities from our highly-skilled WIN community. WIN and Hired are both on a mission to drive equity in the world of work and we are stronger when we do this work together.

What are some initiatives that your organization is currently working on?

We’re currently brainstorming around creating a Think Tank in partnership with a wide range of global academic institutions. Stay tuned! 😉

Last September we launched our 2022 WIN Awards Gala and look forward to hosting another one this year. This event brought our global community together for in-person connections, the chance to learn from speakers, and celebrate our WIN Awards winners. Watch the livestream here!

Thank you for sharing all of that, our network will definitely enjoy learning more about your organization. Anything we should be on the lookout for or upcoming events you’d like to promote?
